    本書是“拔地入雲，造端倡始”佛教與東亞宗教研究項目中，關於名山大寺研究系列中的第三卷。聖地崇拜是任何宗教傳統的重要組成部分，對佛教這樣的跨文化宗教尤其重要，因此就很難誇大聖地在佛教歷史上的重要性。雖然佛教聖地深遠且廣泛的意義，一直以來來吸引了國際各學科學者的關注，但在具體的實踐地點和理解中古東亞佛教聖地的解釋策略方面，仍有許多工作要做。正是由於名山大寺在中國乃至整個東亞都具有特殊的重要性，是以本叢書擬通過對 “名山大寺”的合作和深入研究來填補這一學術空白。

     

    2019年12月冬季在北京大學舉行了以“From Tiantai to Hiei: Transborder and Transcultural Spread of Tiantai/Chontae/Tendai Buddhism & East Asian Societies”（從天台到比叡：中、日、韓天台的傳播、互動與東亞社會）為主題的天台學研究國際佛教研討會。此次會議由北京大學佛教研究中心主辦，天台山文化交流中心承辦，“拔地入雲，造端倡始”佛教與東亞宗教研究項目協辦。這次會議可以說是自1997年比叡山國際天台學研究大會以來，關於天台佛教的國際範圍內最為重要的一次研討會，它展示了過去數十年來關於國際天台學研究進展中若干重要的突破。本書精心挑選了各國與會學者所提交的40多篇學術論文中的16篇。故而閱讀此書，即可了解此次會議與國際天台學的一些最新重要成果。
